Camden Released Mugshot Meaning
A booking photograph records appearance during an arrest and booking episode. It does not establish guilt, case disposition, release type, present custody, or current appearance. Release also does not erase the fact that an agency created an image, although later expunction or another legal restriction can change access and retention.
North Carolina G.S. 132-1 broadly includes photographs in the definition of public records made or received in public business. That general rule remains subject to exemptions and other laws. G.S. 15A-502 addresses law-enforcement identification photographs. Neither statute guarantees that every image will be online, and neither proves that a particular agency holds the requested photo.
The most accurate presentation pairs the image with the booking date and agency, the Camden court disposition, and a current release or custody source. A news image or state-prison photo can depict the same person yet still be a different record from the ADJ booking photograph.
Camden Mugshot Record Channels
Camden sends local detainees to Albemarle District Jail, or ADJ, in Elizabeth City. No ADJ-hosted roster, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, or stated photo field was found. Its visible lookup goes to VINE, and no photo should be promised there unless the live matching record is inspected. The source holding the image depends on the custody system and booking event.
| Channel | Has a verified photo? | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| ADJ online roster or release list | No official local list found | Ask ADJ for the existing photo tied to a precise booking. |
| Camden Sheriff mobile app | Not advertised | Use for official news and contact, not as a promised mugshot source. |
| ADJ or Sheriff records request | Possible if held | Identify the person, booking, agency, and image sought. |
| NCDAC offender detail | Verify live detail | Use only for state-custody identity information, not as an ADJ photo. |
| VINE | Not verified in research | Do not claim a photo; use the matching record for custody status. |
| Official news or social release | Sometimes | Label the publication date and context; do not call every image a mugshot. |
Commercial copies can be stale, misidentified, or detached from the legal outcome. They may be useful only as a lead. Do not reproduce an unverified image or treat it as confirmation that a person was released.
Request Camden Booking Photographs
For a local booking, start with ADJ at 210 Executive Drive South, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. The jail lists 252-335-4844 and 252-335-1579. Ask staff which office is the custodian and how it accepts a written request. If Camden Sheriff created or retained the image, its Records Management Division is at 117 NC Highway 343 North, Camden, NC 27921, with mail to P.O. Box 57 and main telephone 252-338-5046.
- Give the full name and date of birth if known. Add the Camden arresting agency and approximate arrest or booking date.
- Supply the booking number when available. Ask for the existing booking photograph tied to that one custody episode.
- Request the admission and release or transfer record as context, including recorded date, time, authority, type, and destination.
- Ask for electronic delivery. State that the agency need not create a new analysis or custom report.
- If the image is denied or redacted, ask the custodian to identify the legal basis for the decision.
Camden County accepts public-record requests verbally in person or by phone, as well as by email or letter to the relevant department. The request must reach the agency that actually holds the record. Anyone may request a public record and need not give a purpose.
Camden County’s request-method and fee page is shown below.
The county page supports the request routes and fee framework, while ADJ must confirm its own image custody and submission details.
Note: No standard ADJ booking-photo price, records-desk hours, fixed response time, or image-retention period was published.
Camden Mugshot Fees and Timing
G.S. 132-6 requires access at reasonable times under reasonable supervision and copies as promptly as possible after lawful fees. North Carolina does not set a single fixed response deadline for every request. Keep the inquiry narrow, identify the exact booking, and document each follow-up.
Under G.S. 132-6.2, an ordinary uncertified-copy charge is limited to actual reproduction cost unless another statute sets a fee. Ordinary labor is not part of that cost. A request requiring extensive information-technology or clerical resources may support a reasonable special-service charge. The custodian need not create a record or compile a photo gallery that does not already exist.
A database request may need to be in writing. If ADJ refers the image request to Camden Sheriff, or the Sheriff refers it back to ADJ, ask each office to identify what record it holds. Arrest reports and the jail booking file can reside with different custodians.
Camden Mugshot App Limits
The Camden Sheriff provides a free OCV app listed as “Camden County Sheriff, NC.” The official app feature list names news, events, safety tips, permits, contact tools, and tip submission. It does not name inmate lookup, releases, jail records, or mugshots.
The official feature page appears below. Its listed functions make the app useful for agency announcements, but they do not establish a booking-photo search.
An incident post might include a photograph. That image may be a news photo, evidence image, or press-release image rather than a jail mugshot. Record its publication date and context, then use the case and release sources to confirm what later happened.
Camden State-Offender Photographs
NCDAC Offender Public Information covers state prison and state supervision, not ADJ bookings. Full offender records can carry identifying information, but the live detail should be checked before promising a photograph. Even when an NCDAC image appears, it relates to state custody and may have been taken at a different time and agency than the Camden arrest.
Read state status fields together. An inactive incarceration status can coexist with active probation, parole, or post-release status. Actual Release Date and Last Movement are stronger proof of prison departure than a photograph or Projected Release Date. “Post-release supervision” means the person left prison but remains under state supervision in the community.
A person transferred from ADJ to state prison was not released into the community at the time of transfer. Search NCDAC after intake and indexing, and keep the local booking image distinct from any state record. The Camden County released inmate search explains how to reconcile the local and state custody paths.
Camden Mugshots in News
Camden Sheriff’s official news and social channels may publish incident-specific material. A caption should be read closely. An arrest photo proves neither conviction nor later release, and a general portrait is not necessarily an identification photograph taken under booking procedures.
Preserve the source agency, publication date, and stated context. Then check the Camden court file for disposition and the jail or state record for current release status. A court dismissal can precede physical release while another hold is cleared, and an image can remain online after the custody event changes.
Third-party image pages lack that chain of custody. They may mirror an old booking, omit a later outcome, confuse people with similar names, or keep a photo after an authoritative record changes. Use the originating agency instead of treating a copied image as the release record.
Note: A photograph’s source date and agency matter because the same person may have local, state, and news images from different events.
Camden Mugshot Access Law
As of the July 30, 2026 research date, no enacted blanket North Carolina booking-photo confidentiality law or mugshot-specific pay-to-remove law was found. H.B. 446, titled “Prohibition on Disclosing Booking Photographs,” remained proposed legislation. Its official status showed a referral to House Rules on March 20, 2025. A pending bill must not be described as current law.
G.S. 15A-152 places duties on certain compensated criminal-history compilers when expunged data must be deleted. It is not a general mugshot statute. Existing exceptions may still protect juvenile material, confidential personal details, investigative records, or records affected by an expunction. The custodian can redact protected content while releasing public portions where the law requires separation.
The sound request is for one existing photograph connected to one identified booking. That approach helps the agency locate the correct record and avoids asking it to create a bulk image product that it does not maintain.
Camden Mugshots After Expunction
An expunction can change official access after release. North Carolina’s Judicial Branch describes expunction as removal of a qualifying charge or conviction and sealing or destruction of state arrest, charge, and conviction records. The petition or automatic process depends on the case, outcome, dates, and governing statute.
G.S. 15A-150 directs notice and purging to agencies such as the sheriff or arresting agency, NCDAC Combined Records, SBI, and other recipients when applicable. That process may affect an official booking photograph. It does not mean that every private copy vanishes at once. If a court-system item remains after an order, contact the clerk that handled the case.
For dismissed or not-guilty cases, G.S. 15A-146 includes an automatic path for some qualifying matters disposed on or after December 1, 2021, subject to statutory exceptions. Other cases may require a petition. Confirm the actual order before asking an agency to change access, and give the custodian enough information to locate the affected booking.
Verify Camden Mugshot Context
A reliable record chain answers four separate questions: who is pictured, which agency took or published the image, what happened in the case, and where the person is now. No single photo answers all four. Match the name and birth information, booking number, agency, and arrest date. Then compare the case disposition with a current release source.
- Booking photograph
- An identification image tied to a specific arrest and booking event.
- Release record
- The jail or prison entry showing when custody ended there and, when recorded, the reason or destination.
- Transfer
- Movement to another custodian, not return to the community.
- Expunction
- A legal process that removes, seals, or destroys qualifying state records under the governing order and statutes.
Camden’s regional setup makes the agency check vital. ADJ is the operating local jail, the historic Camden County Jail is not a detention site, and Pasquotank Correctional Institution is an NCDAC prison. A photo from one should never be labeled as though it came from another.
For recent local custody context, the Camden County 24-Hour Releases page identifies the official gap and the correct person-specific sources. It does not host or promise a mugshot gallery.
